Quartet 2020 Call For Submissions

The call for submissions for Quartet 2020 is now open, and will close on April 30, 2019.

Once this call closes, all manuscripts will be reviewed by our acquisitions editors and a short-list will be produced. This list will be further evaluated and the final titles will be selected from it.

Frontenac House has published the Quartet series of poetry titles every fall since 2001. Our selection process is to issue a call for submissions in the winter, and select the titles for publication the following year. The selections for 2019 are Against Forgetting, by Keith Garebian; Baddie One Shoe, by Natalie Meisner; Common Brown House Moths, by Laura Zacharin; and Waterline Immersion, by Conrad Scott.

We hold high standards, and as a result many of our titles have won awards and accolades, most recently Billy-Ray Belcourt and This Wound is a World winning the 2018 Griffin Poetry Prize. Our poetry editor, Micheline Maylor – former Poet Laureate of Calgary — works closely with the selected authors, and our in-house design team strives to create exceptional cover and interior designs that complement the high quality of writing we publish.

If you are interested in submitting your manuscript for consideration for Quartet 2020 and you haven’t already, we encourage you to explore our website to get a feel for the type of work we have published in the past.

When you make your submission, we ask that, in addition to your manuscript, you include the following:

  • Cover letter including full contact information.
  • CV including previous publications, awards and affiliations (e.g., League of Canadian Poets).
  • Description of the collection that could be used for promotional material.
  • Author biography.
  • Outline of any marketing opportunities that you have identified. We promote our titles and authors, but have found that when an author gives us input and utilizes their own network, sales are greatly improved.

Please note that we require complete manuscripts, not selected poems.

We accept submissions by email (preferred) or by regular mail.

Email submissions will be confirmed and replied to the sending email account. If you don’t receive acknowledgement of receipt within 30 days of submitting, please follow up by email or phone. Please note: the support information you include should NOT be part of the email message body. Rather, it should be a separate file or files attached to the email.

Please email your submissions to quartet@frontenachouse.com

Regular mail submissions will be acknowledged using the email address you provide. We do not return manuscripts unless specifically asked to. If you wish us to return the manuscript, please include a SASE with sufficient postage.
File formats: We prefer MS Word files, but can review PDF, Pages and OpenOffice files. If you submit a PDF and are selected for publication, we will require a Word file or equivalent to edit from.
